A consortium of Saudi Archirodon and DEME has won the second phase of transformation work for the Port of NEOM, the primary seaport of entry to northwest Saudi Arabia.
Qatar Airways expanded services to Saudi Arabia with the launch of the Doha-NEOM Bay flight on Saturday. The NEOM Bay flight will be the 10th route by the airline to the Kingdom. Qatar Airways announced two weekly flights with Airbus A320 aircraft starting Dec. 9 from Hamad International Airport in Doha.
Tendering activity is ramping up at NEOM’s OXAGON development, with contractors competing for an expected SR24bn ($6.4bn) of construction work at the industrial city’s port. Contractors have been invited to bid by 27 December for an estimated SR12bn design and build contract to deliver infrastructure and building works for Terminal 1 at OXAGON Port. The contract award is expected in February 2024.
Will Smith is the latest celebrity to promote Saudi Arabia. Smith posted a video on Instagram Wednesday morning showing his recent visit to NEOM, a $500 billion project Saudi Arabia is building and hoping to open by next year. The post went out to Smith’s 64 million followers and came during his trip to the Kingdom where he also stopped at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah to plug his upcoming movie.
ENOWA has developed a blueprint for the world’s first renewable, high-voltage smart grid, Peter Terium, the company’s CEO, told Arab News. In an interview on the sidelines of the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference, Terium said that the “grid of microgrids” will allow ENOWA to supply the NEOM region with sizable, 100 percent renewable electricity that simultaneously provides a 50 percent reduction of the corridor footprint.
Supplier of Film & TV rental equipment and location services, Supply 2 Location Group (S2L) which opened its Northern HQ in Liverpool a year ago, has announced its international expansion with the opening of its first regional office in NEOM, Saudi Arabia in early 2024. The move follows the likes of Johnny Depp in granting prestige to the Middle Eastern kingdom’s turbocharged efforts to gain kudos in the global film industry, following a decades long ban on cinema in the nation.
Neil Peplow, the former director of international and industry affairs at the British Film Institute (BFI), has joined NEOM Media Industries to spearhead talent development at the Saudi media hub. As industry learning executive director, Peplow will lead efforts to train local talent at NEOM and develop the Industry Vocational learning campus being established at the fast-growing production hub. The UK executive was previously director and CEO of the London Film School, which he joined in January this year.
Plans for a new hexagon-shaped luxury hotel have been unveiled in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. Situated on the Gulf of Aqaba coastline, the ultra-luxurious Siranna will be home to 65 rooms as well as 35 exclusive residences. Like hexagonal pillars rising from the water, the futuristic hotel promises to offer uninterrupted views of the Red Sea, while the tiered design will offer different perspectives. Access to the hotel will be via boats where guests will sail through natural rock formations before reaching the entrance of the property.
Saudi Arabia’s sustainable energy push in NEOM is expected to get a further boost as the Kingdom’s $500-billion megacity has signed deals with Bosch and Bain & Co. to accelerate clean industrial transformation in OXAGON. OXAGON is the industrial city in NEOM, which will operate with 100 percent renewable energy. The Kingdom also aims to turn this destination to a tourist hub, aligned with the goals outlined in Vision 2030.
Saudi Crown Prince MBS gave the world plenty to think about when he announced the gigaproject NEOM. Most were skeptical of the 170km strip ever coming to life. Not only is NEOM taking shape in full swing, but it is also introducing more and more megaprojects every passing day.
