Scandinavian star Square De Luynes is on course for a shot at the Group 3 NEOM Turf Cup at the Saudi Cup meeting next month.  Nicknamed “Frankel of the Fjords” by his fans, the three-time winner of the prestigious Stockholm Cup International is being prepared in Dubai for the $1.5 million contest over 2,100 m on Saturday, Feb. 26 by trainer Niels Petersen.

NEOM will be a Jetsons-style ultra-modern metropolis in complete contrast to the other very conservative parts of the desert kingdom.  Backed by Saudi's $500 billion Private Investment Fund, the group which purchased Newcastle United, the plans for NEOM are so ambitious that some of the technology doesn't even exist yet.  The city will be located on the border with Jordan and Egypt and will start welcoming residents and businesses by 2025.

The Saudi crown prince recently reiterated his intentions to finalize the planned 2030 development strategy for Riyadh, which would more than double the population of the country's capital backed by a public-private partnership worth approximately $500 billion at a low estimate.

Marriott says the two hotels will be completed in 2022 and 2025 respectively. The design includes a luxury development and is part of a larger plan that would transform an eleven-square-kilometer swath of the town of Diriyah, 15 minutes outside the capital, in a mixed-use scheme promoted to be reminiscent of the typical Najdi architecture which dots the area first added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 2010.
