NEOM’s first phase of its green hydrogen facilities are set to come online in 2025, according to the megacity’s CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr.  He made the claim at the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh on Thursday.  NEOM is doing this to attract the best students in the world to come and be prepared for the research and innovation for the future of mining, Al-Nasr explained.

Saudi NEOM Green Hydrogen Company has awarded Thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers a contract to build one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects at NEOM.  Thyssenkrupp will engineer, procure and fabricate a more than 2 gigawatt electrolysis plant based on their large-scale 20 megawatt alkaline water electrolysis module, Saudi Gulf Projects reported.  Upon commissioning, the facility will produce hydrogen to be synthesised into carbon-free ammonia for export exclusively by Air Products to global markets.

The company pulled in strong investor interest in its first quarter — even as it reported a net loss in its first-ever quarterly results.  ACWA Power has so far provided a good bet for investors seeking clean energy projects that align with the Kingdom’s efforts to diversify the economy.  On debut the stock recorded a 30-percent hike after striking Saudi Arabia’s first initial public offering exceeding $1 billion since the oil giant Aramco listed in 2019.
