The NEOM green hydrogen project in northwestern Saudi Arabia is on track for timely completion, as about 90% of construction work has been finished across all sites, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) announced. The kingdom’s flagship green hydrogen project is scheduled for completion in 2026, with initial deliveries of green ammonia expected in early 2027.

The project will deploy 2.2 GW of electrolysers powered by about 4 GW of solar and wind capacity and is expected to produce roughly 600 tonnes of green hydrogen a day, equivalent to around 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia a year.

Co-shareholder Air Products is the sole off-taker of the ammonia from the plant under an exclusive 30-year supply agreement.

Despite the challenges roiling the sector, Saudi Arabia has announced plans for another large-scale green hydrogen project in Yanbu on the Red Sea coast, which will feature up to 4.4 GW of electrolysers.
