ACWA Power reaffirms strategic hydrogen partnership with SEDC Energy

Sarawak’s ambition to become a regional hub for green hydrogen received a major boost with a courtesy visit by ACWA Power Founder and Chairman, Mohammad Abunayyan, to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, reaffirming the company’s strategic partnership with SEDC Energy (SEDCE).

SEDCE said the visit underscores ACWA Power’s commitment to emulate its flagship NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia, bringing similar scale and ambition to Sarawak.  It also said that NEOM is the world’s largest green hydrogen project currently under development, targeting 4 GW of renewable power to produce 600 tonnes per day of green hydrogen.

“The USD8.4 billion project is designed to position Saudi Arabia as a leader in the global hydrogen economy, an aspiration that aligns closely with Sarawak’s clean energy vision.

In Sarawak, ACWA Power and SEDCE are jointly exploring the development of a green hydrogen facility powered by up to 4 GW of captive renewable energy, delivering 2 GW of electrolyser capacity for export and domestic decarbonisation.

ACWA Power and SEDCE entered into this agreement last year establishing the basis for this collaboration.
